Inside the Megadome: A Handcrafted Geometric Glass Terrarium by Mossarium

A miniature rainforest, enclosed within hundreds of geometric lines.

Some creations begin with a design. Others begin with a question: How far can we push the boundaries of a terrarium?

At Mossarium, our fascination with glass and nature has always encouraged us to explore unconventional shapes, intricate structures and new ways of bringing miniature landscapes to life.

The Megadome is one of those explorations — a large, handcrafted geometric glass terrarium that brings together glass craftsmanship, botanical design and the delicate balance of a living ecosystem.

More than a decorative terrarium, it is a miniature rainforest enclosed within a sculptural glass structure, designed to be admired from every angle.

Handmade Glass, Piece by Piece

What makes the Megadome truly special is the craftsmanship behind its glass enclosure.

Unlike conventional terrariums made from ready-produced glass containers, the Megadome is constructed from individually handcrafted glass panels, carefully cut, shaped and assembled piece by piece by our in-house team in Malaysia.

Each panel contributes to the intricate geometric structure, forming a multi-faceted dome that is both architectural and organic.

The process requires patience, precision and an understanding of how individual glass surfaces come together to create a much larger form.

From the first glass panel to the completed dome, every stage reflects Mossarium’s dedication to handmade craftsmanship.

Proudly designed and handcrafted in Malaysia.

Building a Rainforest Within Glass

Once the glass structure is completed, another journey begins — creating the living landscape inside.

The Megadome features an intricate arrangement of tropical plants, delicate ferns, moss, natural driftwood and carefully layered planting substrates.

Rather than simply filling the enclosure with greenery, our botanical team approaches the arrangement as a miniature landscape.

Every plant is positioned with consideration for its natural growth habit, texture and relationship with the surrounding elements.

Driftwood introduces height and structure, while smaller plants and moss create the feeling of an established forest floor.

The result is a miniature rainforest that continues to evolve as the plants grow and settle into their enclosed environment.

A Living Ecosystem That Changes with Time

One of the most fascinating characteristics of a closed terrarium is its ability to develop its own miniature water cycle.

As moisture evaporates from the soil and plants, condensation gradually forms along the inner glass surfaces. These droplets eventually return to the growing medium, helping sustain the humid environment inside.

In the Megadome, this natural process becomes part of the experience.

Tiny droplets collect on the geometric glass panels, leaves unfold towards the light, and moss gradually settles around the landscape.

The terrarium is never entirely static.

It changes quietly over time, offering something new to discover with every closer look.

While the enclosed environment helps retain moisture, occasional monitoring and adjustments remain important to maintain a healthy balance.

Designed to Be Experienced from Every Angle

The Megadome is not simply a terrarium viewed from the front.

Its multi-faceted geometric glass construction allows visitors to discover different perspectives of the landscape as they move around it.

From one angle, the eye follows the natural movement of the driftwood. From another, the smaller ferns and moss create the impression of looking deep into a rainforest.

Under dedicated lighting, the glass structure becomes even more captivating.

Reflections travel across its geometric surfaces while the illuminated greenery creates a striking contrast against the surrounding interior.

Whether viewed during the day or in the quiet atmosphere of the evening, the Megadome offers a different visual experience.

Where Botanical Design Meets Glass Craftsmanship

For nearly a decade, Mossarium has explored the relationship between plants, glass and interior spaces.

Our work extends beyond conventional terrariums to include custom botanical installations, preserved moss walls, living landscapes and handcrafted geometric glass creations.

The Megadome represents our approach to design — combining traditional hands-on craftsmanship with a contemporary interpretation of nature.

Every element is considered, from the geometry of the enclosure to the smallest piece of moss placed within the landscape.

It is a reminder that even the most intricate creations are built through small, thoughtful steps.
